This is how we distinguish ourselves from Vinted
Vinted, a platform that I have always had a lot of love and hate for. I no longer sell the online platform, but I have done this a lot. In this blog I will give tips and tricks to sell your clothes on Vinted and in our store. Grab a cup of tea and sit down for it.
First of all I want to say that the arrival of Vinted has changed a lot in our country. I can still remember the time of selling clothes via Marktplaats, that was a time for me. You made a lot of effort to sell that one jacket, exchanged home address details and a few days later a (hopefully) nice customer came to your door. Quite a scary idea that you just gave people your home address. This also changed over time and then you could also send your stuff. Still, I always had the idea that this did not come as a booming business with clothes on Marktplaats.
The rise of United Wardrobe and Vinted was really great. I spent hours in my student room taking and uploading photos. In the beginning I couldn't sell items. But what was the reason? They were really fun items. Once I figured it out I sold dozens of packages to France in one day. The trick? Good on-photos, bundle discounts and sending enthusiastic messages. It almost became my full-time job next to my studies. Still glad I opened a store haha!
Good photos: it sounds SO simple, you open your camera, put the item down, take a photo and upload it to Vinted. I did this in the beginning, but it sold almost nothing. The tip? On-photos. Yes, as annoying as it is, it really works. Try to make nice sets of the clothes you sell and take a nice photo in the mirror. Just look how fast those sales go.
Bundle discount: turn on your bundle discount! We humans love sales. You want to get rid of your items, clean up! At Vinted you can turn on different discounts. See what works best for you and start selling.
Sending enthusiastic messages: someone saves your item as a favorite? Send a message. Compose a nice enthusiastic message and don't feel bad about sending it. Maybe this person is hesitating because the sizes aren't listed. Then you're the person who measures that one top, right? :)
This is why I stopped selling on Vinted..
I can hear you thinking; she stopped because she has a shop and webshop with second-hand clothing. No haha! I still really enjoyed selling my clothes on Vinted. What I always liked less were all those different postal services. Now I lived in a village where not all of these parcel services and post points had them. So that meant that I often had to drive a few kilometers for a parcel. If you sell a lot on Vinted that is not so bad, but for an item of €1 or €2 I found that annoying. In the evening you can often only choose the shipping option Homerr. Let that be the postal service that was not nearby. Did you know that Homerr is from Vinted? So it is quite smart to only select that postal service as the sender in the evening, because when do most people have time to scroll on Vinted? 😜
I liked to sell my clothes on Vinted but I also like to buy second-hand clothes online. I could scroll for hours looking for beautiful pearls. Unfortunately I wasn't always lucky. If it's broken or not like the picture, you can (often) return it to the sender. But if the size is wrong, this is not possible. Risk of the trade, so to speak. After yet another bad purchase (often with French sizes and communication) I decided to delete the app. Because all those pieces that you don't wear anyway are wasted money and could have made someone else very happy. Bye Vinted, hello Second hand by Things!
I have been in the shop in the Korte Molenstraat in Cuijk for over two years now. Bags of second-hand clothing arrive daily. We try to process these in the shop and on the webshop as quickly as possible. I aim to put new items online 5 days a week. Because we currently have 320 contributors, we receive many different styles of clothing. We try to offer as inclusively as possible, but this is not always easy. For example, we receive many small sizes and few large sizes. I would prefer to offer clothing from baby size 68 to adult size 64. But, of course, it depends on what we receive. Know that we do our best to offer this in any case. What I also think is important to say is that everyone is welcome here. Age, origin, gender, rich or poor, everyone is treated equally here.
What sets us apart from Vinted
Now that you've read my slight irritations about the Vinted platform, I'm going to tell you what sets our store apart from Vinted. First of all (this is mainly for my state of mind) we ship with one postal service. Namely DPD. We are also a DPD Pickup Point to pick up and send your packages. Since today we also got a handy printer, so you no longer have to print out your label. Yay! Secondly, do you order second-hand women's, second-hand men's or second-hand children's clothing online and it doesn't fit? You can always return your package within 14 days. Isn't that nice? Don't forget to add a note with your order number and which items you are returning. Otherwise we cannot process your return. It can take up to 10 working days before you have the money back in your account. If you shop in our store, second-hand clothing cannot be exchanged/returned. You can try on/feel the clothes with us and we have a super cozy store to come and have a look around :)
Finally, the clothes in our store have been thoroughly examined and sorted. We don't sell anything that I wouldn't wear myself. There are definitely items hanging that aren't my style, but in terms of quality I would buy everything that hangs in our store (and yes, I can really be a nag!). I can hardly imagine a bad purchase 🤣
When we talk about the commission of selling clothes, I can imagine that some people choose to sell their clothes themselves on Vinted. Do you bring your clothes to us? Then you get 30% of the proceeds after the period has ended. That doesn't sound like much, but we often hear that in comparison you sometimes have more left if you sell with us. Is the market on Vinted saturated? I don't know. What is a fact, is that a lot of people sell on Vinted. Maybe your products are not very visible and the sales prices are on average a lot lower. Even more advantages: you bring your items in a large bag/sack, we do all the work and after the period you receive the money in your account. Oh yes, and you don't have to go to a different postal service for every item sold. You can of course pick up the clothes that are not sold to try them out yourself on Vinted or you donate them to charity. Everyone is happy :)
